Take Responsibility For Your Life

Posted on

WELCOME BACK. The scripture says: “Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life” Galatians 6:5 (MSG). In our article today, I want to emphasize the fact that the price of greatness is responsibility. You may believe that you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth of the matter is, you are responsible for what you think, because it is: only at this level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think and what you think is the reason for your upliftment and achievement in life. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. Your attitude is developed when you learned responsibility and accountability through the growth process of life. Look at the word ‘responsibility’ the ability to choose your response. The great achievers recognizes this fact. They do not blame circumstances, they do not blame conditions, or conditioning for their attitude. Their attitude is a product of their own conscious choice, based on values, rather than a product of their conditions, based on feeling. You see, you are the only one responsible for what goes on in your life. You can make excuses and blame others, but you are responsible to and for yourself. Taking responsibility for your life is a commitment to own your life, to self-leadership, growth, and freedom. Accepting complete responsibility for your life means that you refuse to make excuses or blame others for anything in your life that you’re not happy about. It also means to achieve life mastery and be worthy of a life well lived, meaning you must take action, ownership, and responsibility for your choices. This success principle changes everything in my life. The moment I realized this, then, I decided that I am the one capable and responsible for changing things in my life and everything shifted in a geometric progression.

Robert Schuller, the founder and senior pastor of Crystal Cathedral, wrote a book titled “If It Is Going To Be, It’s Up To Me”. In that book, we are reminded that nobody is coming to your rescue. If you want things to get better in your life, you have to get better. If you want things to change, you have to change. If you want things to improve, grow or increase, you have to improve, grow or increase. That’s the simple divine law of responsibility. Success on any major scale requires you to accept total responsibility. In the final analysis, the one quality that all successful people have is the capacity to take on responsibility. Ninety-nine percent of all failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses. All blame is a waste of time and energy. No matter how much fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him or her, it will not change your life. Blaming is pointing out there, rather than in here, into your own mind, when you find yourself in a painful or uncomfortable experience. Blaming means shifting the responsibility for where you are onto someone or something else, rather than accepting responsibility for your role in the experience. For you to accept responsibility for your life, you must focus on fixing the problem, never focus on the blame. Problems are only resolved when solutions are sought. My advice to you is to take responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else. Greater progress in your life is possible only to the degree that you take more responsibility. No one else can or will take up your share of the load. Remember, when you take responsibility for your behaviour and your actions and insulate yourself from excuses. It’s only then, will your productivity and quality of your life will improve.
