WELCOME BACK: The scripture says: “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). The desire for greatness is inborn and it motivate our actions and decisions. Greatness is not something you pursue, neither your pursuit of power or recognition, but it is as a result of serving your gift to the world. That means anyone can be great. When you serve your gift to the world you become significant and people will describe you as great. Ultimately, greatness is significance. Greatness comes from the value you bring to life with your gift, because every human being in existence in this planet earth come with an inherent gift. That makes you wonderfully great. So, what is greatness? In our own view, we could defined greatness as popularity or achievement. Greatness could results from these qualities, but they are not the definition of greatness. The great achievers such as: Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, and Dr Bishop David Oyedepo just to mention but a few. Through a careful studies of each of them it was revealed that greatness was not a product of academic studies, but a discovery of serving a unique gift to the world.
It’s also important to recognize the fact that not one of them desired to be great or pursued greatness as a major work of their life, but they were all preoccupied with pursuit of their unique capacity in service to humanity. Greatness is discovering your true self and your true gifts and then, humbling your true self, to serve. Your greatness has to come out through the effort of serving. Serve means to manifest through effort. It also means to perform. Jesus said he that is great among you shall be your servant. Servant means one who serve another or provide help for one another. You see, when you hide from responsibility, God hides greatness from you, but when you make yourself valuable, people look for your service. God said your gift opens the way and brings you into the presence of the great. People will never make you great. It’s your gift that makes you great. The more efficently you serve your gift to the world, the greater you become to the world. Jesus further said in his word, If you want to be the greatest, be like the youngest, and the one who rules will be like the one who serves. James E. Faust said: “A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness. It’s an expression of humulity. It’s a foundation for the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love and well-being”. Remember, greatness is not how much wealth you acquires, but your integrity and capacity to affect those who are around you positively.
