Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. One of the reason most people procrastinate is fear of the unknown. They are so scared of stepping out on their dream that they keep putting it off. No one really tells them that it’s because of their fear that’s dragging their feet, because that will make them look bad. But It’s fear that makes them suspend their dream indefinitely. They give all kinds of excuses but it’s really the fear of starting that makes them delay their destiny. Putting it off, is to procrastinate. To procrastinate simply means to delay, to hold back, to postpone, to suspend or put a stop to your dream.
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplish. It’s the practice of doing more pleasurable once, or carrying out less urgent tasks instead of more urgent once, thus putting off impending tasks to a later time. Never put off for tomorrow, what you can do today. In Proverbs 6:4NLT the scripture said: Don’t put it off, do it now! Don’t rest until you do. Most people put off their dreams because they are perfectionists. They think that unless their dream is perfect, they have failed. The need to be perfect causes them to do less and less until they are completely paralysed by the fear of doing something that isn’t perfect. The truth of the matter is that no one can ever attain perfection. We all can attain excellence, we can do our very best but waiting for perfection is a recipe for failure. The bible say if you wait for perfect condition, you will never get anything done. Just do the very best you can with the resources you have and improve on your performance as you go along. Edward Young said: “Procrastination is the thief of time” Year after year it steals, till all are fled, and to the mercies of a moment leaves the vast concerns of an eternal scene.
Elizabeth Kubler – Ross said: “It’s only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth, and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will began to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had”. Napoleon Hill also said: “Don’t wait, the time will never be just right”. Procrastination usually results in sorrowful regret. Today’s duties putting off until tomorrow give us a double burden to bear, the best way is to put them in their proper time. Until you value yourself, you will never value your time. Until you value your time, you will never do anything with it. Norman Vincent Peale said: “If you put off everything till you are sure of it, you will never get anything done”. The great achievers are people who have broken the chain of procrastination, those who find satisfaction in doing the job at hand. They are full of eagerness, zest, and productivity.
